We offer short-term care for pets to assist pet guardians who are in crisis situations and need a safe place for their pet to stay. These situations could include (but are not limited to):
The bond between a pet and their person is meaningful, and we understand that in many cases a lack of access to temporary care for their pet can prevent people from seeking the help they need. Our emergency boarding program is designed to give people in crisis situations peace-of-mind that their pet is cared for in a safe, loving temporary home and will be reunited with them.
Partner agencies supporting people in crisis can refer individuals to EHS for temporary pet care of up to 60 days. EHS will then review the request to ensure all the necessary criteria has been met.
The pet guardian will complete an agreement that includes the animal’s care history and how long care has been requested for.
An appointment will be scheduled between the referring agency and EHS to admit the animal into EHS’ care. Vaccinations and microchipping will be provided if required.
Once the pet guardian is out of crisis and able to live with their pet again, they will be reunited. EHS can provide care for up to 60 days.
