Cattitude: Whitney

Home/Cattitude: Whitney
Hello, my name is

Years Months Weeks

Hi, I'm Whitney! I'm a Lone Ranger! I'm quiet, like a shadow on a wall, but if you're sneaky and quick enough, you might catch a glimpse of my perfectly groomed tail zipping around a corner! You may not see very much of me initially as I might be somewhat fearful of new situations. But even though I keep to myself, I might surprise you with some cuddles once in a while. I would love a home which will respect my request for alone time, as well as be open to my love when I choose to give it. I may be nervous, but I can be full of love if you and I work together to help me become a more confident kitty! I can't wait to find my new family.

This cat is currently part of the Cattitude Cat program. The adoption fee is therefore by donation. This cat is quite nervous in the shelter, so would really love to get into a home! A pet home may be considered as long as the adopter understands that this cat may take extra time to adjust and may hide at first. A working cat home (barn or shop) may also be considered. Regardless of location, the cat should be restricted to a small area until comfortable as otherwise is likely to hide or run away.

Behaviour Observed in Shelter:
-  Fearful behaviours
-  Higher Stress in shelter
-  May be uncomfortable with handling
-  Hiding behaviours
May Be Prone To:
-  Hiding Behaviours
-  Prolonged amount of time to become comfortable in new situations
-  Avoidance/Fear of strangers
-  Avoidance of handling
Recommendations:
-  Allow a substantial amount of time to adjust to new and unfamiliar situations
-  Allow cat to approach people on its own terms so as not to overwhelm or create negative associations
-  Slowly introduce cat to new situations, people and environments by rewarding positive interactions and creating positive associations
-  Quiet and patient household so as not to overwhelm cat

Whitney came in to the shelter as an owner surrender. She was surrendered because the owner had to move and could not take her with him. She is nervous in shelter but is slowly coming out of her shell.
